Associate Professor Eleonora Gullone (Australia), PhD, FAPS Adjunct Associate Professor School of Psychological Sciences Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, & Health Sciences, Monash University Australia. Dr Gullone is a qualified psychologist who has worked as an academic for over twenty years. Her focus has been promotion of child wellbeing through developmental psychology. This evolved to include non-human animals over the last 15 or so years. Related to this, she was a member of Animal Liberation in the late 90’s for a number of years. In 2000, she founded a group within the Australian Psychological Society focused on promoting positive interactions between humans and animals. Amongst her many research projects resulting in over 100 publications, she has also conducted a number of projects examining the link between aggression toward humans and cruelty toward animals. These projects have resulted in over 10 publications including a book published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2012 titled “Animal cruelty, Antisocial Behaviour and Aggression: More than a link". On the basis of her extensive research, she proposes that if we cultivate a culture of compassion toward all of our non-human citizens, including those currently exploited for human use (e.g., food, “sport”, experimentation), current and future generations will benefit through reduced antisocial and violent behaviour toward all sentient beings including ourselves.
